Shri Ravindra Narayana Ravi, son of
Late Shri Ram Bilash Singh and Late Smti Draupadi Devi was born on the 3rd of
April 1952 at Patna in Bihar. He is married to Smti Laxmi Ravi. He did Masters in Physics in 1974 and after a
brief stint in journalism joined the Indian Police Service in 1976 and was
allotted the Kerala Cadre. He served in different parts of the country in
various capacities. While serving in CBI he led several anti-corruption
crusades against organised criminal gangs including mining mafias in the
country.
While in IB, the premier intelligence
agency of the country, he served largely in conflict theatres including Jammu
& Kashmir and the North East. He also specialised in dynamics of human
migration in South Asia and worked extensively on the political sociology of
border population. He is working on a book on political economy of insurgency.
He played
crucial role in conflict resolutions in ethnic insurgency affected areas and
brought several armed rebel groups into peace. He was the architect of India’s
international cooperation in counter terrorism and intelligence sharing.
After
retirement from government service in 2012, he wrote regular columns in
national dailies. He later assumed the
charge of Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee in August 2014. He was appointed as Centre’s Interlocutor to
Naga peace talks on 29th August 2014. He facilitated the signing of historical
framework agreement between Government of India and NSCN (IM) on 3rd August
2015. In October 2018, he was also appointed as Deputy National Security
Advisor besides the assignment of Naga Interlocutor.
Having been
appointed as Governor of Nagaland by the President of India, Shri R. N. Ravi
assumed the charge as Governor of Nagaland on 1st August, 2019.
